Thailand marked a powerful year for MICE

Thailand closed the year 2022 with a powerful performance in the MICE sector, recovering strongly from the effects of the pandemic, and welcoming over 400,000 MICE visitors since the border reopened in early 2022. Many major events have taken place, others are scheduled, and our reputation for world-class facilities, great service, and as a best value-for-money destination are driving interest amongst planners and organisers who are arranging their events now that the world is returning to normal.

Amongst the successful events that Thailand hosted during the year were the return of the Unicity organising the Unicity Global Leadership and Innovation Conference, attended by more than 10,000 Unicity distributors from over 50 countries and the Jeunesse Expo World Tour 2022, which was held in Phuket for the Asia-Pacific and Greater China stage of their world tour.

Thailand continues to move forward in its attractiveness as a MICE destination. New infrastructure includes the complete remodeling of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, which hosted APEC 2022, welcoming delegates from 24 nations, amongst them some of the world’s most influential trade and industry leaders. Expansion of the BTS Skytrain and the MRT subway is greatly improving access throughout Bangkok including the extension line connecting IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre. Terminal expansion at Suvarnabhumi Airport will also increase passenger capacity and ease business journeys.

Thailand is making great strides, not only on facilities, but towards sustainability, with Bangkok selected by the Global Destination Sustainability Index as the winner of the 2022 Most Improved Award, in recognition of the city scoring the highest improvement in sustainability for its MICE and travel industry.

Unicity Global Leadership & Innovation Conference

2022 Unicity Global Leadership & Innovation Conference, a gathering of over 10,000 Unicity distributors and delegates from over 50 countries, drew to a successful close at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani on the outskirt of Bangkok. After no in-person meetings for 2 years, the event was, definitely, filled with interaction and encouragement for the better. Reinforcing such sentiment was the post-event trips of some delegates to other destinations like Phuket and Pattaya, a sign of physical travel finally. Taking place between 5-7 August 2022, the event earned a profile as the first largest M&I group convening face-to-face in Thailand after the country’s full reopening in July. A sign of confidence in Thailand and Unicity’s spirit in revitalizing MICE industry and igniting business recovery after two-year challenges.

A Conference by Brilvoice Limited

TCEB and TAT welcomed 9,000 M&I attendees from India between 14 and 17 December 2022, who were in Bangkok to attend a conference organised by Brilvoice Limited, held at IMPACT Challenger Hall. Addressing delegates at the opening ceremony, TCEB president Chiruit Isarangkun na Ayuthaya said that for over a decade, India has been one of the top source markets of MICE travellers for Thailand, adding: “ Thailand’s international ranking as a forefront destination is a strong representation of our determination and mission to help you maximise your opportunity in Thailand. I hope your visit here will allow you to experience the never-ending development of Thailand in producing magic experiences for overseas travellers. No matter what circumstances, India is and will remain one of Thailand key markets for MICE.”
